What gives the most satisfaction?
My niece and myself didnt speak to each other from 2002 until just before xmas 2013 after a major fallout. Making up again was (to borrow an American term) awesome. Eleven years of animosity, over in seconds and much hugging and crying etc and much forgiveness on both sides. After some of the previous cr>p Id been through, this was the best thing that had happened in a long time.
On the other hand, there are certain people, who, if their lives went tits up, I actually think I would be delighted to hear about. I'm not wishing ill on people but cant help thinking that if certain peoples lives went pear shaped, I would crack a beer or two in celebration.

Forgiveness takes a lot less effort and it does away with the risk of acting-out the more outrageous revenge plans, so you don't end up becoming a criminal over a trivial dispute.
As the quote goes, "the best revenge is to live well". There is forgiveness wrapped up in that suggestion - you forget about the spat and let the other person seethe.
