Why are these birds more than any other trusting of humans?

probably because they've learnt that we unearth worms and grubs when we're gardening.

Yes but some will even come indoors

yes I have a robin who will take from my hand and comes to the garden when I do a special whistle. They are known for being fiercely aggressive though, maybe that makes them braver.

I don't know, Tony but they certainly are. Other birds know we unearth worms but don't get anywhere near.

Possibly because we are on their territory and therefore belong to them! It may be because everyone has always recognised them easily and smiled and been friendly.... just a thought.

I believe it's something to do with where they originate from where they shared the land with wildebeests or some other large grazing animal. They think humans are wildebeests which churned up the land revealing grubs and things, that's why they follow gardeners.
I can't remember where I've seen or read this, or perhaps I dreamt it...

blackbirds are friendly too. Mine come and nag me if the feeder is empty and my sister had one that used to come into the kitchen and beg for food.

I had a friendly female blackbird who used to land at my feet whenever I went outside and she used to come right up to my kitchen window and look in as if to say where's my food ! I loved her and was really sad when she didn't turn up one day and I never saw her again. I also have a little robin that lands at my feet too !

A hen blackbird used to stand next to me (less than 2 feet away)when I was weeding the borders. It would give me what appeared to be quizzical looks if my activities didn't turn up meals at a suitable rate.

I don't think they are more trusting. Rather, I think that they are far more bold than most other garden birds. Its there apparent lack of fear that we are mistaking for trust and friendliness.

I have a bird table about 3 foot from my conservatory door and sit and have breckie while looking out every morning for at least an hour.
i put out mixed bird seed, porridge too, and before I close the door, the robin is there, helping himself while keep looking up as much as to say, many thanks Mum haha. We only have one robin so I pray he doesnt vanish and not come back! Great little birds. (loads of sparrows too)
