I have a pair of suit trousers that have the sizing label of 56. The trousers are definitely not a 56in waist and I doubt they are a 56cm waist as that would be 22inches. They must be some kind of continental sizing as the suit as a whole was made in Yugoslavia which makes the suit over 20 years old. Does anyone know what this would be in English waist size? Thank you.

Suits are often sold by Chest size - are you a 56" chest?
UK/European Men’s Trouser Sizing Converter:

56" chest is rather huge.

This is an American site, but it suggests a waist size of 40 inches.
Hope this helps.
Oh, it's gone out of line! 56 = 40 inches.

All dimensions? Surely not!
It doesn't give the units of measurement, Tilly...could be in microns....don't get overexcited.
Aw! That's a relief!
