While I do understand smokers being annoyed that this is planned, I also have to stand up for those who will be delighted to be able to walk in smoke free areas. I can only speak for myself. But, I am a non-smoker, have had cancer, have lost my son to cancer (which his surgeon said was largely down to his smoking!) and when I pass someone who is smoking, it nearly always makes me feel physically a bit sick and can start a migraine if I stand around in the same area. I know smokers think that if they are outside others are not affected, but I'm afraid they are. Also, as Zak said earlier, being fat and poor does not affect other people's health! So, this should not be put in the same category as smoking. Obesity is also being targeted by the government and the NHS. Poverty ... ah well, I don't think they will ever solve that one! There are other issues that are not targeted enough, such as chemical products in our food etc.
