Actually, I spent untold weeks in Devon as a child in the 50's and 60's. My mothers side of the family were Daveys and they all came from Exminster. My Mum, although born in London, as I was, spent a lot of childhood staying with her Aunts in Exminster, as she was evacuated there in 1939. I have managed to find the grave of my great grandmother, in the graveyard of the Church.
So I know Dartmoor like the back of my hand and love it dearly. As regards Cornwall, there is a saying printed on the wall of the Cafe in the Eden Project, that goes something like this ::
" It is said that the Devil never ventured across the Tamar into Cornwall, as he had heard that those Cornish housewives would put anything into a Pasty, and he didn't want to take the chance ! "
I am sure you have heard that in Devon, the cream is put on top of the scone and then the jam, but it Cornwall, the jam goes on first and then the cream. The reason for this amongst good Cornishmen is that they are ashamed of their cream in Devon, and therefore wish to hide it !

OH's family all live in Devon - it's gorgeous, no problem with that. I, on the other hand, hail from God's REAL county which is Yorkshire (sorry Mikey - you can retire on this one) without any arguments. (OK I Have my hands over my head.) Back to sanity; it's a long way to visit family, but I do find a lot of similarities between the two counties and the personalities which they breed.
Mikey, I lived very close to Exminster, I lived in Starcross and Dawlish just a few miles away, I know it very well.

No never heard that, I know the thing about cream on top etc, but in fact both counties generally put the cream on first, its just easier and makes more sense lol.
