The 'i' Newspaper - Differential Pricing?

I've seen two copies of today's 'i'.

One was purchased in the East Midlands at the longstanding price of 30p, the other I picked up in Coventry and I was charged 40p (which price was emblazoned in much bigger than usual print).

Is this some sort of 'testing the water' to see if sales will fall if they go for a universal price-hike?

How much are you paying?

I pay 30p weekdays, 40p Saturdays (Hampshire/Sussex borders)

That's been the usual rate here (Cov & Warwicks) for the last year or so, Canary42.

It was hiked to 40p every day (including Saturday) as from the start of last week.

If it's up to 40p then that's 100% increase in price since it first came out.Not much cheaper than some of the red tops and no big boobies on page 3. Mind you, the crossie and the Sudoku are far superior.

I only buy the i on a Saturday, for the prize crossword. I think its very good value for money.

I still think it's good value - even if the local rise to 40p becomes the norm.

I'm just not happy with what is presumably a "try it in a small area and see what it does to sales" ploy.

Rather underhand I think.
