Can my employer stop commission payments, without notice, which have been part of my recognised employment, although not written into my contract of employment, for the past 5 years.

If commission payments are not written into your contract of employment I think they can legally do so. However, there are situations where "Custom and Practice" could well be taken into account. You may find that the ACAS website (Arbitration & Conciliation Service) can give you more details.
