Sold an Item on Ebay which was pictured online and was packaged in front of other and posted first class (receipt kept) Now have buyer claiming item is two different items and they were of poor quality etc and demands refund or replacement at my expense.
Has anyone had the same hassle and how was it resolved. Have reported buyer via Ebay.

Check your listing details and, unless you've included paying for return shipping (back to you) I would refund them only the amount as described above.
I know it grates on ones nerves to deal with people like that, but just count it as a cost of doing business. The sooner you get it over with the better...

The buyer MUST return the item before anything else happens.
The buyer has to pay return postage and then if it is faulty you can refund him/her.
Do not do ANYTHING until you have the item back. A lot of people 'try it on' by demanding a refund without returning the item. Any doubt just hand the case to eBay and let them sort it out.

are they trying to swap their broken one for your newer one?
do you have any way to confirm the item they send back is the one they sent you?
i know some people buy identical iitems to ones they already own, then return their broken one - they also do it by taking parts too - i dont sell much but i would always take all serial numbers, take many photos, note any scratches etc - and also make a tiny mark somewhere on it so that you know its yours.
otherwise, if they do have a case, you must pay the postage, if the item is faulty - they pay it if they have only changed their mind.

I have an Ebay shop so have experience of this. Firstly you must do everything through Ebay so there is a record of correspondence. Reply to the buyer with apologies that he is not satisfied and reminding him he can have a full refund on receipt of the returned items. If he refuses to return item and demands a refund through the Resolution Centre, then Ebay will make him return the item for a refund -if he ignores Ebay requests to return item then the case will be closed by Ebay and that will be the end of it. If he does return the items then you will have to give the refund (purchase price plus postage) and put it down to experience. From my experience once you mention 'Resolution Centre' you will hear no more from the buyer -sounds like a 'try on ' to me. I've found if you follow Ebay procedure to the letter they are very fair with sellers.
