Why Do Smokers Think They Are Exempt From Littering?

I no longer smoke but when I did I always carried a pocket ashtray so that if there were no bins or ashtrays available I could extinguish my cigarette and take my rubbish home with me. Most smokers I know would not throw their 'dog-ends' on the floor.

I have an alleyway behind my house where teenagers congregate in the mornings on school days, I have to regularly go out and pick up energy drink cans and crisp and sweets packets. Some people litter, some don't.

Smoking drivers who empty their very full car ashtrays alongside the kerb make me see red.

Before my old neighbours sold up and moved one of their visitors regularly emptied her car ashtray right outside our front door.

^^^^ Just to say though that she was doing it because we had an ongoing row with the neighbours over noise. She never did it to anyone else or anywhere else that I know of.

A woman who lived next door to me some years back used to smoke on the front and always threw her fag ends outside MY house, not hers, so one day whilst out with my dog I picked up every fag end I saw and threw them outside her front door. She never did it again !

In some of the papers it wasn't do much the littering, but the language she used when protesting about being "copped".

Not all smokers are litter louts, don't tar everybody with the same brush. People who spit chewing gum on the pavement are worse IMO leaning councils with hugh bills to clear it up.
