melv16: Just get your oil hotter and throw in some Bi-carb into the mixture. Also, use carbonated water instead of normal water. Your over will be surrendering to your Yorkshire puddings.

I'm scrapping the spuds & replacing them with Yorky puds. Off now to make the batter. I'll try the baking powder trick, dizmo.
Good luck but I'd not scrap the spuds :) You know what. I've now decided I'm going to have sausage, mash, puds and gravy for my tea. I'll take a photo of my puddings later. I'm going to go for carrots and marrowfat peas for the veg. I'm a salad dodger :)
Why scrap the spuds? Have the lot!
I can see it now...

Beautiful butchers quality sausages sauces from the finest pigs in the land.
Creamy mashed potato with a light sprinkling of cracked black pepper.
Homemade Yorkshire puddings the size of sky scrappers, full of gravy.
Dressed off with peas and cabbage...

Someone give me a tissue.

The batter's done & it's resting. If the puds don't rise, dizmo's in for a kicking:-)
I usually make my batter and immediately cook there and then - my excuse for if it doesn't rise :)

Soda/Fizzy water is good but it's only good if you use the mixture straight away.

I'm going to put my shin protectors, cup and toe cappers on. You do know I'm a trained body guard don't you ;)

You can take the suit of armour off dizmo. It rose like a phoenix from the ashes and so did the Yorkshire pudding;)
