Need to reduce an iPhoto file size from 1.3mb to no more than 256kb. I did it once before but can't remember how. Can anyone help please?

I always use the 'Preview' app to resize my photos/images as I find it gives me more control over resizing.
Open your image in 'Preview'. Then go to File > Export. Adjust the slider control to reduce your file size.
Another option in 'Preview' is to go to Tools > Adjust Size. Select Custom and ensure you select your units as 'Pixels & Pixels/Inch with the Scale and Resample boxes ticked.
My version of Preview is 8.0 from Yosemite OS.

Thanks Fan, Preview was what I tried to use initially but whilst trying I lost Preview completely. I can see it in my list of applications but can't wake it up with a click or a double click. I'm using Yosemite 10.10.2. I did manage to get my image down to 256kb, renamed it, and then went back to the site I was trying to load it onto. But the site kept taking me back to iPhoto where the original 1.3mb image was and not the new, renamed one. It seems to be floating around in the ether. Whilst waiting for a reply on here I posted my ad without a picture thinking I could add it later but by the time I got an answer I had a customer anyway so it didn't matter but I want to know for the next time it happens. Now it is on here I can refer back to your reply and fender's anytime.
Thank you.
Thank you.
