I have a HP printer that I used to use with my desktop, but I have a laptop that I want to use with it.

Is there a cable I can buy which can be used for the laptop to the printer, as the cable male socket is different?

You haven't stated type of connector, so I'll assume its USB.

Thanks Tuvok,

My HP printer is a Deskjet F2480, and Laptop is HP 17'' Pavilion Win 8.1, 64-Byte.

Hope this helps.
No such thing as a 'male' socket, male = sticky out thing :-) , looking at the spec it uses a standard USB cable so the cable you used to connect to the desktop will be fine
