Most alarm systems have an internal battery, so they'll still work if there's a power cut, or if a burglar cuts the power. Any idea what make and model you'll be installing so we can check .... although there's prob no need, as I'm fairly sure that it will have an internal battery ..... might be better to check though, just in case :)

It might be worth also looking into buying a UPS (Uninterruptible power supply). We use one for both our alarm and CCTV system. We've tested ours and it lasted for for about 18 hours before the alarm's battery took over with then lasted another 7 hours.
i have been known to scale ladders and rip offending box from wall....in Norfolk when neighbour was away for 3 months ! .much to the delight of everyone I may add...
that depends on the alarm system, you want one with a battery back up. this means that if the power goes off, an inbuilt battery would keep the alarm system running for some time.
