Keep getting a message on my phone saying that the internal storage is nearly full which is stopping me receiving any texts. Don't take many photos and hardly have any apps as mainly use it for texts and emails. Any suggestions as how what should be deleted to free up space?

The key word in your post seems to be 'internal'. The usual way to free up internal memory is simply to move stuff across to removable memory. Have you actually got an SD card (or microSD card, or whatever, as appropriate) in your phone? Most phone manufacturers expect you to buy one.

Yes. there is an SD card. It's a Samsung Galaxy Ace. How do I move stuff across to removable memory? (Obviously am a technophobe!)
The 'Move' option (on page 34 of the user manual) should enable you to transfer files and folders to your SD card:
