one road haulage company in one month pays out 3,000 a month on tolls across the severn

but if you take an average amount of cars at 1500 @ 4.60 it comes to 6,900 then multiply by 20 =138,000

that is rough idea of how much they take in in a day remember it could be more or it could be less

not a true answer to your question.

but if you are going from England to Wales, take the old bridge. its free to enter Wales on that one.

use the new bridge to get back into England from Wales, its also free to enter Engalnd on the new bridge..

so the answer COULD theoreticaly be zero if people chose to take one, one way and one the other way....

my answer ins`t a true answer.

wasnt saying bob57 got it wrong.... :-)

Based on DfT data, traffic flow across the two Severn Bridges is estimated at between 50,000 and 65,000 vehicles per day.

Around 30% use the original Severn Bridge (M48), so if we use 60,000 as the total average using both crossings we produce a daily figure of 42,000 vehicles using the Second Severn Crossing (SSC).

LGVs (Cat. 3) make up about 20% of this figure = 8,400.

I haven't found figures for Goods Vehicles up to 3,500kg (Cat. 2) but I will guesstimate at 5% = 2,100.

This leaves us with Cars etc. (Cat. 1) = 31,500.

Thus we have toll charges of
..8,400 x 14.70 = 123,480
..2,100 x ..9.80 = .20,580
31,500 x ..4.90 = 154,350

Total daily revenue for SSC = 298,410

(Original Severn Bridge = 127,890)

If only funkymoped was right, alas it is NOT free to go from England to Wales over either bridge. It is however free to go from Wales to England over BOTH bridges. If you realy want a "free" round trip you will have to cross over further north, from Gloucester, then come back over either of the two Severn bridges from Wales into England.

You HAVE to pay on both the old and new bridges into Wales - sorry funkymoped, I use both at least twice a week, and I wish you were right!

i stand corrected.

thanks to Littlejohn and Doms.

<FONT>DOH !

im here to redeem myself in a groveling sort of way !

if you cross from Wales to England on either of the bridges, its free ! so the answer could theoreticaly be zero !
