How would you feel if a sub-contractor arrived at your home to undertake some work and ignored the most basic of H&S procedures to protect the workforce?

A building inspector works for the local authority. He would not be responsible for overseeing the site staff's PPE or H&S methods, although if he had severe concerns he might report any dodgy practices to the HSE.
Building inspectors come and say 'yes that's fine' or 'What The Funicular is that?'

I have dealt with many, many building inspectors on site...wearing my comfy trainers, shorts, no vis vest and no hat.
They want to know that the construction meets the necessary requirements. They are not fashion police.
The only person on site who ever had a helmet was the Agent. And he always kept it in the rear window of his car. Why, I couldn't tell you. Any old Agents out there?
For goodness sake -I know what building inspectors do I deal with then every week! Obviously my skills in English language are not getting through. What I'm trying to say is that a small job -one not requiring the building Inspector, is likely to be carried out without a risk assessment, therefore no one is breaking any Law by not following the Risk Assessment and the only thing Legally they are required to do is ensure they and anyone working for them wear safety boots. If the job is big enough to require a building Inspector report, then there will be a risk assessment sheet and everyone on it should adhere to that, not because the Inspector tells them to but because if they don't , if nothing else, their Liability Insurance will be invalid.
