Bowel Mucous

Sometimes my husband has days when he passes only clear mucous in his bowel movement. The doctor doesn't seem worried and he has had one of the bowel screening tests recently which was fine, but what is it he is passing.

Bowel screening tests..negative......no mention of blood or abdominal pain........"has days"........I agree with your GP.

It can be caused by any number of things...irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, crohns, etc. Any/all of these things don't necessarily come with pain or blood in the stools.
Just because his bowel screening test has come back fine doesn't mean there's nothing wrong. I don't want to go into detail, but personally I'd want further investigations as what you are describing isn't 'normal' in my opinion.
