Cockatiel Keeping
6 Answers
Hi,
I am looking after a young cockatiel for three weeks. It seems very lonely and has come from an aviary and not tame. It is in a large parrot cage, I am thinking of getting Him( or Her) a mate. is that a good idea or are they happier on their own?
Thank you.

A young bird kept on its own will become tame eventually, especially if you chat with it at every opportunity and show patience. Note that it is cruel to keep a bird in a cage without attention as it will think of itself as a family member and will pine if ignored.
If another bird is kept with it, they will focus on each other and generally take a lot longer to become attached to the humans looking after them.
Please read all you can on the the keeping of a cockatiel as mismanagement of any animal under your care is cruel.
