I think the hd stands for high definition and is transmitted in that format for the new high definition TV's

there will be 4 hd 'sky' channels at 1st.these being sky one hd,sky sports hd & sky movies 9 & 10 hd.

these will indeed be high-definition ie brighter, clearer, sharper picture.

Also another annoying difference is a extra 10 pounds on the subscription that you already pay a month.
Is it only an extra 10 a month on subscription cause the shop I went in to said that you had to buy through sky the hd box for 300 before you even got started not to mention the price for the HD TV's. I can see ther's a difference in the quality of picture but once you're watching something through your Sky + on Scart or SVid the quality is pretty damn good. I would need to win the lottery to affor all thaT JAZZ
You have to buy and HD box first (299) and also have an HD compatible TV, then for you extra 6 or so channels you pay an extra 10 a month, if you want Sky+ on your HD box you have to pay ANOTHER 10 a month to have that activated! A lot of money for 6 mediocre channels if you ask me.
Another annoying thing about Sky Hd is that the advert advertising it goes on for about 3 minutes, and all it is is swirly pictures. It's pretty, but what's the point?
