Cost of repairing a Peugeot 206...

I recently drove my car along the metal barrier of a 'trolley shed' at a supermarket. It dented the lock of my passenger side, as well as scratching most of the length of the car, sounds worse than it looks! I can only open the passenger door from the inside (I presume this means that it's the handle mechanism not the locking mechanism itself that is broke?!?). Has anyone had a similar 'accident' and what is the likely cost of repairing the damage? (including metalic paint)

P.s. my insurance company have told me my excess is 450 as I'm under 25, basically will I be needing to get it done on the insurance?

Your best bet is to take it to a body repair garage and get a quote, it might not look so bad but it will probably cost as much or perhaps more than your excess.
if your trying to keep it cheap tell them you only want the handle sorting out and get them to try and polish the rest out n touch up any bare metal if there is any, prob wouldnt bother going through insurance if your excess is that much
