Ideas for posh looking buffet food?

It's just been sprung on me by the other half that I am doing 'some food' on Christmas Eve... hmmmm like 4 days away, it will be for about 10-14 people and like buffet style.. Would like some idea for things other than sandwiches and sausage on sticks.. Just been to M&S to steal their ideas, they had some lovely cooked asparagus spears with one end wrapped in smoked salmon.. that's the kind of thing I'm looking for.. looks good but with minimal effort...??? Please help.. All are meat and fish eaters..

Spread a thin slice of bread (preferably brown) with cream cheese, lay a slice of smoked salmon on top then roll it up like a swiss roll and cut into little wheels.

Try this site. Its a UK site so no conversions, not the best looking site on the web but has a good few recipes. I got my xmas eve recipes off it (just me and my gf, not as adventurous as your 10-14!!)

Feta cheese foldovers


Beat an egg yolk with a tiny amount of water and then mix with crumbled feta, thinly sliced red onion salt and pepper.


meanwhile cot some 'ready made' puff pastry into 12 3" squares and mound in a tiny bits of the mix. Fold over to form triangle and press the edges together. brush with a bit of egg so they stick.bake on 180c for 20mins or until golden brown ( forgive my cliche)

Lots of chunks of different cheeses and perhaps some pate, carrot, celery & red papper sticks and some dips, and lots of fresh crusty bread & biscuits designed to be eaten with cheese.
Forgot to mention about the wheels - looks much better with the crusts cut off!
Easiest thing in the world - smoked haddock or trout pate - break up chunks of either of the above fish, chuck into a blender with a pot of double cream, some parsley and dill, salt and pepper, a splash of lemon juice and loads of butter. Serve spreed thickly on very rough oatcakes. Lush!
Making that asparagus with salmon is very easy parkers. Boil water, break tough ends off asparagus and discard. Put asparagus in boiling water for 5 minutes, then shock with cold water (to keep green color). Wrap the salmon around two or three stalks. Arrange nicely on platter. Maybe for garnish put some lemon twists on the platter.
fruit! get a large plate and put a pineapple in the middle. then get some kiwi, grapes, cherries, berries, in fact any small fruit and arrange around the pineapple. people will pick at the little fruit and as the evening progresses you can cut a couple of slices and leave the knife for others to cut their own pineapple. Not only is it delicious and light (before christmas day) but people will be impressed by your fresh fruit display. Trust me, no matter where you are fresh fruit (for some reason) always draws the eye and impresses!
Tell him to do it, he's invited everybody round, so tell him to get on with it. You don't need this stress at the last minute.

Indeed funnywebsite, my sentiments exactly... Oh well I've got a day off work on Friday so I will just have to deal with it.. All this talk of food is making me hungry... Thanks again everyone

Why only steal ideas from M & S? Why not steal the party trays and sushi trays and save yourself a load of hassle!

My favorite one is 'Mini Jackets'....


New potatoes deep fried, then cut open and serve with fillings like:-


Tuna Mayo, chili, coleslaw, cheese, sour cream, etc...

has noone suggested a pineapple and cheese hedgehog... they are the business.
Those mini Jackets sound great, how long would you need to fry them for?
Yep, when I do a buffet my main source is my local Iceland (particularly the little deep pan pizzas they do) because their stuff doesn`t taste like cardboard like the big cash & carry chains do. Also, I am lucky enough to have a large daily street market (Croydon) which country dwelling visitors are envious of!

Remove the skin and top of a pineapple, the 'eyes' as well. Place it upright on a decorative dish.


On a decorative toothpick, stick pickled onion and bite size pieces of cheese and ham. Stick the toothpicks on the pineapple. And serve on the buffet table.
