Communication Rant!!!

My wife went to meet a friend. She supposedly sent 2 messages to mobile which my wife did not receive so what did she do she sent a message to landline.
What happened to the good old fashioned telephone call!!

I'm with EE and am finding my texts are taking ages, sometimes hours to go through. My friend, with Orange received a text from her daughter sent 2 DAYS earlier - what is going on?
