Anyone watching this programme on Beeb2 about this unbelievably humble and, dare I use the word, nice man, aged 81?
If there ever is a candidate for a knighthood, it's him - 7 bike world championships to his name, one time Formula 1, and then the loss of his son and the creation of a charity to fly blood transfusions into accidents by helicopter.
It has a been a source of mystery to me why John Surtees has never received a Knighthood, Stirling Moss received one for services to motor racing but was never world champion. Agree with New Judge, Johns achievements will never be equalled.
Not a particular fan or motorbike racing or even car racing but I found this a really interesting programme. I agree - a very nice man. So modest and very different from the champions of more recent years. A great champion!
Just spotted an AB from November 2012, wondering why John Surtees has never recived a knighthood. Totally agree with that. He would be very worthy - much more so than a lot of sportsmen who have been knighted.
