Buying A New Bed....

Not bought one for years, so any recommendations would be appreciated, as just reaching 70yrs, with a bit of an old spine injury and feel a bit achy & stiff when I wake up.

Well for me it has to be a divan bed (solid) and a fairly soft mattress with a memory foam topper. The best thing to do trt is visit one of the Bed showrooms and try as many as you can until you find the one that feels just right... Don't rush it. x

I spent over £1,200 on a bed 20yrs ago. I look on it as an investment as I've suffered with back pain for most of my adult life. Take your time in choosing, and try all of the beds in the showroom.

water bed, maybe? I had one for years and it was fabulously comfortable.

We bought Tempra mattresses a year or so ago. They were quite a lot of money, but well worth it. Very very comfy, it moulds into your body shape. Try one out.

I am not really into shopping, but if you are trying out beds for 10 minutes on each one, it dosent say its OK for the night, does it?

I had thought about a water bed jno, but are they easy to get out of in the morning?

I also have a waterbed. They are very comfortable and I never wake up aching in the mornings as you are supported all over when lying in it. Same I believe for memory foam mattresses. Waterbeds are no more difficult to get out than a normal bed. They are more expensive though. Mine is 6ft wide x 6ft 2"long it is warm in winter and you can cool it down in summer, and you don't move out of your sleep position if the other person I in bed moves. I have had mine for about 15 years and it cost £1,200. Well worth the money considering how much of ones life is spent sleeping.

I would advise you that (for me anyway) go for an expensive bed =- mine was £1,000 several years ago but there was hard, medium soft re the mattress. I went for soft and it is hard enough.

I bought a very hard bed many years ago and it was torture. Take your time re buying one. Once you get it home and unwrap it as far as I know you can't return it. Good luck!!

If you buy a tempur from tempur, you can have a 60 night trial but they aren't the cheapest place to buy tempur from. I have got a tempur mattress and love it.

When I get my next one I think I will try out the Tempur one. They are expensive but I believe if you are registered disabled you are exempt VAT on their beds. I also believe they allow a cooling off period to allow a a proper trial. Not sure how that works though.

My mum had a dunlipillo mattress and it was fantastic. When I replace this bed this will be what I will buy.

(Incidentally, Which? says that Tempur mattresses are wildly overpriced and not that good quality...much cheaper/better quality memory foams are available!...not that I would want one).

Re;jenny's comment...I've only ever had Dunlopillo latex matresses and would NEVER have anything else...and they are the Which? top mattress, too.

I recently bought a bed (without mattress) from Marks & Spencer. They were brilliant, free delivery plus put the bed up for me and took away the old one.

trt: memory foam is very much a "love it or hate it" thing....it's an easy way to waste a lot of money if you find you dislike it. It's like sleeping on industrial-strength marshmallow IMO....terrible!

I am another much in favour of Waterbeds, I have a degenerative disc disease in my lower spine which causes chronic back pain but my waterbed really does seem to help, I have had a waterbed for 15years + it is warm and very supportive with no lumps, I purchased a new one (Superking size softsided - brand new) online very recently, it was £799 full fitted and it is marvelous. The problem is if I go anywhere overnight I really miss my waterbed and take piles of Yoga mats to sleep on instead. I hope you find what you are looking for!
