Illegal operation

Been having a problem recently.A box appears saying "you have performed an illegal operation" and shortly after the computer shuts down.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong and how to rectify it?

Is it the same thing every time ? Not the same error but the same operation.

May i ask exactly what it is you are doing so i can try to find an answer?

I think you'll find that the message doesn't say that YOU have performed an illegal operation, but actually names the program which has done so.

I wonder why it is that so many people post questions on here asking for a diagnosis, and yet it never occurs to them to post all the relevant info? e.g the exact error message, type of computer, operating system, exactly what they were doing when the problem occurred, etc.
