I was shocked that Brendan, the international tour guide, and none of the other tourists on the coach had heard of Stifado. They are in Greece and one of the girls asked if stifado was greek as she remembered her parents always had it on holiday. She was almost made fun of but it really is a popular traditional greek dish.
I'm not particularly surprised that some people didn't know about it (or know that is was Greek); if it had been, say, moussaka I'd have been far more surprised (even if moussaka does originally come from North Africa!).
