when every government department is being driven to make deep cuts, when there's so much demand on what cash is actually available, can we really afford to keep up a territorial claim on such a far flung outpost?

well if you are going to me a mouth peice for gromit ichk then you'd better have the answers to what I asked. Gromit said above "It is a complete waste of money as it was 30 years ago" - so 30 years ago should we have simply sacrificed the islanders? over to you.

This latest question is a separate issue really.
well Mr G will have to answer the "30 years ago" bit (which I disagree with) but the point about the "waste of money" today is one a few people have remarked on
It could make for a great penal colony.....then let the inmates have fun with the penguins:

And if Argentina invade, they get our scum and riff-raff.
Well it is not a waste of money.I suppose we could stand back and watch the Orkneys be invaded by Norway if they had such hostile intent. The people of the Falklands are British living in a British protectorate. They have more right to a billion or two in foreign aid than India and all the other countries where unworthy causes are being funded by the British tax payer.
yes retro but sadly gromit and his anti British mates would simply abandon them so we don't spend the money.
