Driving without a DQC, or failing to produce it, carries a maximum fine of £1,000 for both the driver and the operator licence holder.
These offences will be referred to the Traffic Commissioner who will then consider what action to take. This could include suspending the driver’s licence and/or the operator’s licence.
You can get a £50 fixed penalty for driving professionally without having your DQC with you.

I've never heard of insurance problems as Zac describes, but douglas lays out the basic fines. As we (drivers) all know, it is another waste of time from the EU and has prompted many older drivers to take early retirement. Some of the instructors I've had on approved courses don't know what they are talking about (because they have just boarded the gravy train and have no real knowledge of legislation) and we have to tell them the facts. Have had instructors who don't know basic things like traffic signs, let alone the EU Drivers Hours rules!
As an aside to this question, one of the main problems with the current DQC (Driver Qualification Card) - a "drivers cpc card doesn't exist" - is that whilst undergoing the "traiining" a driver can take the same module for the entire course, and this has & does happen. This is legal, but the driver has "missed" parts of the course which is probably not how the qualification was intended, however, the system for training the drivers was/is amd always will be woefully inadecuate INO.
NJ : The immigrant problem was just starting when I finished doing continental. Bad enough then, but totally out of control now. The governments only recourse is to fine the driver (who is doing his best not to get his load contaminated with people, excrement etc) £2000, because it is obviously his fault for being in collusion with the immigrants!!! All easy to say from Westminster!
Nibble: Yep, I did the same course 3 times! Total waste of time.
