@jackthehat - She's said to have cartwheeled in the police station, which some people seem to regard as definitive proof of her guilt.
Oh Backdrifter, thank you x

The "cartwheel" ... one of the more ludicrous aspects of the case.

But without going into detail about what actually happened, one should ask oneself this ...

From whom did we hear that Amanda was doing cartwheels?

Was it from Prosecutor Mignini, the man who paid a heroin addict to pretend that he had seen Amanda talking to Rudy Guede? (yes)

The same Prosecutor Mignini who invented a fanciful story involving sex games that got out of hand? (yes)

The same Prosecutor Mignini whose every Press statement was designed to paint Amanda in a bad light? (yes)

And was it reported in the newspapers who rejoiced in reporting Mignini's hysterical lies, even after they had been proven in Court to be untrue? (yes)

Does it not occur to some people how easily manipulated they are? Or is it a case of wanting the story to justify an opinion.

Let me explain.

The Prosecutor has managed to plant the idea in your head that he has caught the murderer ... which he hadn't ... in fact, at that time, he hadn't even arrested Rudy Guede ...

So, the Prosecutor wants to sell the idea that Ananda's behaviour was suspicious.

At this point, no matter HOW she behaves, the Prosecutor has got you into a frame of mind where he can persuade you that ANY behaviour is suspicious.

"Amanda was smiling too much ... that was very suspicious"

"Amanda kept a very straight face ... that was very suspicious"

"Amanda kept walking up and down ... that was very suspicious"

"Amanda stayed completely motionless ... that was very suspicious"

"Amanda refused to talk to anyone ... that was very suspicious"

"Amanda was chatting with everybody ... that was very suspicious"

Some people still can't see that. Even if she did cartwheels (which she didn't), merely saying that it was suspicious behaviour does not make it suspicious behaviour.

But Mignini had managed to manipulate public opinion to the point where some people were ready to take a completely irrelevant nod innocent act, and view it as an indicator of being a murderer.

It's utterly bizarre.

And how did he dupe the poor Kerchers into going along with his incompetence?

Your daughter has been stabbed to death. We are suspicious about her flat mate Amanda, because we saw her doing a cartwheel.

Okaay. So you're not suspicious about her friend Rudy, who had recently been arrested for house breaking, and for the theft of a kitchen knife, and who fled from the town the morning after the murder.

Burying a knife in the woods, throwing something shiny into the river, and disposing of your clothes in a hurry, borrowing some money so you can get the first train out of town in a big hurry ... those are, in conventional detective work, seen as better clues than "doing a cartwheel".

Curiously, even after Mignini has been shown to be a manipulative liar, with a lurid imagination, who will fabricate anything to make an innocent person appear guilty ... even than, some people are STILL buying in to the whole Mignini "she's a witch" campaign.

And I'm not sure why.

Actually, no, I've got a good idea why. There are still people who desperately, desperately want to think that Amanda is guilty, and will clutch at the most hair brained bits of irrelevant "information" to try to justify their belief.

Frankly, Mignini might as well have said "I noticed that Amanda had mousey brown hair. That made me very suspicious." In fact, as I am also cursed with mousey brown hair, perhaps I should avoid going to Italy for a while. I might get arrested.
That article is 5/6 years old, Tambo, and that report has been discredited since then.

I suggest you read the more up-to-date reports...
But what is "appropriate behaviour" when one's friend has been murdered?

It's not something for which one tends to be prepared.

While Amanda tried to help the Police, Meredith's other friends all just wandered off, and probably went to have coffee and gossip about the excitement. Maybe that approach, the "social networking" approach was more appropriate.
you mean she didn't turn cartwheels?

I would regard that as very suspicious indeed, like the dog that didn't bark, the woman who didn't turn cartwheels.

#sherlockonstilts
Maybe that was Amanda and Raffaele's biggest mistake.

Instead of sticking around, and trying to help the Police, they should have just wandered off with everyone else.

That way, when Mignini (without even starting to collect any evidence) looked around and said ... "AHAAAA! I think the killer was ... YOU!! ... I have SOLVED the crime!"

... it would have been some other innocent person standing there going, What?? What are you talking about??
LOL ... Best Answer to jno.

Oh, sorry, this is not my thread. Gaah!
The bottom line of this is that the real truth might never come out, it'll all be opinions.... sad that the family of Meredith Kercher might never have closure ion this
So you are saying Guede is innocent, slappy?
in short yes

convict-acquit-convict-acquit even our own wonderful [infallible [ [ quick] [ thorough ]criminal justice system might concede that there was reasonable doubt ....
No, whay I'm suggesting mate is that it's all become a bit shabby and that there is truth there but no one can see it for all the garbage surrounding it and that why I think its sad for the family, they deserve to really know what happened
well I agree it's been a right tagliatelle of a judicial process and not fair to all concerned - even Guede...typical Italian bureaucratic c-ck-up.....
// Instead of sticking around, and trying to help the Police,//

you only need to read a few of retro's contributions to realise that sticking around and helping the police is a thoroughly bad idea and likely to affect adversely your freedom....

if you cant learn by someone else's experience - then try it a few times...once or twice will do the trick

the number of people who ring the police and get arrested themselves are legion and you read baout them in the local papers every week

That's true, slappy.

There were several immediately obvious lines of enquiry ...

The "flat mate did it"

The "interrupted burglary"

The "invited friends"

The "uninvited friends"

Etc ...

The Police should have investigated all possible lines.

And they should have been searching the surrounding area inch by inch, for clues. You know how you see our Police, on the News, a whole line of them, with sniffer dogs, searching fields and woods.

Mignini didn't bother with any of that "looking for evidence" nonsense. His "instinctive" Police work allowed him to imagine (sorry, I mean "hypothesise") what had happened.

And now, its too late. So, no ... the Kerchers will never know what happened.
No one thinks Rudy Guede is innocent.

He has, after all, admitted sexually assaulting Meredith and being involved in her murder.

I sometimes wonder why the Kerchers have never felt hostile towards Guede, when he was definitely complicit in the murder of their daughter?

Even when Mignini cut Guede a deal, and he got his sentence reduced to 16 years? Everyone was demanding a life sentence for Amanda, but happy for Guede to get off so lightly.

With good behaviour, he will be out soon.
