External Hard Drive

I've just found a Western Digital 400D USB Portable Hard Disk Box 2.0 (My Passport) which I've had lying about for about eight years. The drive indicates 40.0 GB and the booklet says it is for Windows 98/SE/ME/2000/XP & Mac.

I did use it a few years ago when I was using XP but now I'm on Windows 7.

Can it be used for 7 as well or, bearing in mind newer options such as memory sticks, is it worth the effort ? If so, how could I use it to best advantage ?

Plug it in to your pc and see if it works first of all.

Plug it in and see if it shows up in Computer as an additional Drive.

If it does then try a format to NTFS by right clicking on the drive and selecting format. If all goes well then you have a usable device.

You could put copies of your Documents/Pictures/Music on there.

It works fine and I've backed up my hard drive, including my TomTom satnav system !
