Can anyone suggest an alternative social media site to Facebook?. I am not on Facebook kind of puts me off trying when you hear a lot of negative views. Do any of you use any other similar sites if so which ones and what are your opinions of them?

Generally, negative remarks come from people that don't actually use FaceBook, I have used it for about ten years without a single problem. Of course you get people making pointless posts etc. but that's life. If you use FB responsibly you wont have a problem, just like the millions of users that also don't have a problem with it. You wont find anything anywhere near as good as FB.
i don't see the merit of telling the world what time you got up, what you had for breakfast, what the trip to work was like etc. etc. we are constantly being told to make it difficult to steal personal details, then there we go telling the world everything!as for the morons who advertise parties then have the gatecrashers wreck their parent's houses, give me strength!
I've been using FB for about 10 years too and have never once told anyone what I had for any meal of the day. Great to keep in touch with relatives who live away and see some funny videos etc.
I treat it like a magazine and flick through and skip the bits I don't want to read.
I am sure there are many sites besides you could use, if you want to meet new people.

Daisy, we know the agencies spy on people's facebook pages when they have suspicions but what better way to monitor people than something like Streetlife? People ask for gardeners, handymen, mobile hairdressers. Seems an easy way to confirm that somebody is working on the side.
Then again, I could be paranoid.
