Over Glasses Sunglasses

Does anyone use these? How do you find them, are they good/rubbish/average?
There seem to be a whole new generation of them since the huge things of years ago.

The ones I have are the giant things from years ago. They're OK with the added bonus if I want to read something I can with the lenses of my ordinary glasses.

That's why I've been looking at them sandy. Ive only just bought two new pairs of varifocals and want to just have something I can pop over them, especially when in the car.
Do some people just use ordinary sunglasses over their prescription specs?

I always get photochromic lenses in my specs - very convenient in that there's nothing else to carry around, no extra weight and you never get caught out when the sun comes out unexpectedly.

I probably should have done that when I bought my new ones bhg, just didn't cross my mind. I'm now looking for a useable solution..

If your varifocals are both the same it may be possible to get a tint put on one pair. It's worth asking the optician.

If you will only use them for "walking about" (as opposed to reading in the sun), how about getting your old frames reglazed with single-vision photochromics from somewhere like reglazemyglasses.com.

I asked today about having one pair tinted retrospectively but it would cost the same as buying a new pair. I'm really kicking myself I didn't have one of my two new pairs tinted when I ordered them.
I don't really want to send them off anywhere but maybe I'll look into it further.
I'm really just looking for a cheap, easy fix for my own stupidity :(

May I suggest that you go on eBay and enter Bausch & Lomb Ray Ban Clip-on Sunglasses?

They are, for their vintage, the best money can buy. They're made for crystal glass and really do protect your eyes nearly 100% from UV rays.

Measure your frames for width and height and convert to millimeters. On the underside of the brow bar on the sunglasses will be stamped "B&L 46" with the number being the width of the lenses in millimeters.

The attaching "clips" are durable and fairly flexible and can be adjusted to your frames easily.

Full disclosure: I buy sell a lot of vintage Bausch & Lomb Ray Ban sunglasses but the link I entered above isn't mine. The vintage B&L is far superior to the current Ray Ban whcih ae not manufactured by B&L...

Methyl, I did actually laugh, very loudly, in fact we both did :o) Can't somehow see myself looking cool and fashionable (my usual style) with a pair of ski goggles on....
Clanad, will look into all that, although himself...and probably myself too...doesn't really fancy flip up ones. I have memories of my elderly dad walking round in them and thinking 'I'll NEVER use those'. Mind you, I've said that about a few things, and here I am with varifocals, tenna lady, support stockings, a hairy chin, a corset, false teeth...... :o)

Ethandron, they aren't "flip up" ones. They remain firmly in place, unlike most corsets, no?
