Frogspawn

When I was a boy I used to come across frogspawn all the time. I went out with my 4 year old son yesterday to try and find some but had no success. Can anyone give me some help?

The reason I ask, is because last weekend, my sis & bro-in-law came over with a large container full of frogspawn for us. Our grandchildren have had great delight in watching the little taddies swimming about & can't wait to see how many frogs we finally have.
Good luck in your search.
We are in Bucks and our frogspawn also hatched a while back and we now have hundreds of tadpoles. I suspect in North Wales you could be a week or so behind us but I suspect even there tadpoles will now have hatched. Pity you don't live round the corner from us - I would willingly have given your son some frogspawn as I usually have so much I end up trying to find homes for it all. As Smudge has suggested, probably your best bet is to try and find somebody with a wildlife pond in their garden. Those which contain fish usually end up with lots of the newly hatched tadpoles being eaten by the fish. Alternatively if you know of any warm shallow streams, the sunny shallow parts are the best place to look for them as the tadpoles usually rise to the surface during the day. If you can find some and don't have enough natural food for them, try boiling old fashioned roundheat lettuce leaves for about 8 minutes. The taddies will gain nourishment from suck ing all the green leaf fibre from them.
