Last Thursday, my mater had a collapse in the pub - possibly triggered from an arrhythmic heart dropping her blood pressure. I wrote about this on another thread.

She's moaning about a sore spot on the right hand side of her head about 3 inches up nnw from her ear. I think she may just have a bruise as there is a little bit of discoloration, yellow, and the tiniest scratch mark - she was sitting on a bench, rolled to the right and then slumped, her head knocking against the wood and then a secondary slide onto the floor and, I believe, this was the side that she landed on.

The hospital gave her a CT scan, more for the stroke option and that was clear. My question is would the scan have picked up on any crack of the skull.....my leaning is that it is a bruise, treatment a couple of Ibuprofen as it's quite sore up there and to the touch.

Yes a CT scan should have picked up a crack in the skull, but wether the DR picked it up is quite another matter.

Any significant skull fracture or underlying bleeding would have been noticed and acted upon.

thanks for that, Sqad, personally, I think it's a wee bit of bruising - I'll leave it run for another 24 hours and see if the moaning abates, a sign that she's over it - Alzheimer's as you may well know.

There are good days and bad ones, as I well know. I gave her the sqad-tabbies around 5.30 and have just asked her how she felt, a look of "are you off your head?" - she's okay.....but, sometimes, grrrrr. Hoping to get Monday and Tuesday off.

Yes, a CT scan will pick up a fracture (even without CT contrast)

Have you got any of those hot/ cold gel packs Dt? She's probably feeling the bruise. May be just need a bit of fussing over.

Or a woollen hat Dt .. will warm the bruised part of her head.
