I Pad E Mail

I can receive e mails , but since I tried to download some music and synced to my laptop, I have been unable to reply or send e mails from my I pad
I get (my mail address) @ talktalk.net is not recognised by the server as an error message.
Can anyone be of help please?

Go into settings then mail, contacts, Calenders and make sure your setting are correct for your exchange account

Have altered my host name to my e-mail address and have the message "the SMTP (my e-mail address) is not responding and check correct info in outgoing mail server field" (shortened)
This means nothing to me....
Server point 25
Use SSL turned off
Authentication gives 4 options, none ticked
I don't think I'll try syncing again as I lost all my photos on the pad too (although I have cloud back up)
