Either is fine.
I used to love to sing them with Anglican chant but that has died a death now except in cathedrals.
If I said I read them, would you cross my psalm with silver?

I'll get my coat......
Both. At Junior school we always sang 'The Lord is my Shepherd' but recited 'I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills' (my favourite, by the way).
You can even make them into a hit single (psalm 19)

Neither, I don't believe in silly stories, so I avoid taking part whenever possible.
At my mum's funeral we recited the Lord's Prayer.

Thanks for the replies. It`s my mum`s funeral on tuesday and there won`t be any hymns but someone said we could recite a psalm. I wasn`t sure if that is the same as a prayer.
237 SJ - I don't know whether you have already thought about music for the end of the service but I had 'speed you journey' for my Mum. It's from the Chorus of the Hewbrew Slaves by Verdi and it's beautiful . I don't have much luck with links but if you google Speed you Journey you'll find it. Wonderful by a Welsh Choir. I hope all goes well on Tuesday, I'll be thinking about you x
Psalm 23, The Lord is My Shepherd, is perfect for a funeral and can be recited.

Thank you margo. My friend`s step-father is an organist and he is going to play for my Mum. She would have loved that as she was impressed with him when she met him. I`m going with his suggestions and am just finalising that this afternoon.
