Scottish "Plain" Bread

I love plain bread, but to describe how it is different from regular sliced bread is very difficult. How is it made and what do they do to it to make it so different, anyone know?

as a scot i must be the only one who hates it!!!! its tougher than normal white bread. i think it maybe has less yeast in it so it is more stodgy.

I love it too Bearworld, and occasionally find it south of the border, but the Scottish morning rolls are delicious too. My brother used to say they were made with fat, not oil, - don`t know how he knew - but maybe the plain bread is the same. Have you tried Aberdeen Buttery rolls? Yum!

I've never tried it but wondered if it used less salt?

Aberdeen Butteries are lush too, havent had one of them for years, can u get them in England at all?

You are not the only one bellasasha, but the comments about the morning rolls is true. I do still miss them/
