Rogue Text Message On Mobile Phone

I've just received a text from a friend which was immediately followed by another text apparently from her giving the name of a porn website. She didn't send the second text. How can that happen?

Software on her phone that shouldn't be there perhaps? Nothing stops a phone getting infected with viruses, malware or spyware.

She obviously has allowed an app on her phone which has permission to send texts, it seems to be a rogue app.
