Unlocking Mobile Phone
8 Answers
My daughter has gone off to work abroad for the summer, taken her mobile phone without unlocking it. Now can't use it over there.
Can I get it unlocked for her here? Do I need to get a code or something and can they give me that? The phone is in my name. Its an iphone 6, with O2, which we bought from Car Phone Warehouse.

If you find your phone won't work outside of the UK, when it worked ok whilst in the UK, it's poss because you haven't got "roaming" allowed.
You need to contact O2 and tell them that you're going abroad and they'll turn roaming on for you, as it looks as if roaming is being blocked. Once you tell them to allow roaming, you won't need to do it again.

Just to add to all the good answers already given:
If she's going to be working abroad for a long time (the entire period of summer) then it's probably going to be better for her to also buy a cheap phone abroad (PAYG on the foreign network) as well as having data and roaming on your 02 contract phone. At least then she has the option to turn data/roaming on or off from her phone whilst abroad but still have it there as backup. The PAYG phone can be used to keep in contact with her friends in the country she is working in. My friend from Germany does this every time he comes over to the UK (PAYG UK Network provider).

hc4361: I would of mentioned that but after reading Gizmonsters post I made the assumption that wouldn't be possible:
//Unlocking your phone won't do any good - all it'll do is open it up to other UK networks.//
I can only go on what my friends does which is use a cheap PAYG phone in foreign countries. Another reason he does it is so that he can leave his own mobile in the safe at his hotel and just take out a cheap one.
