Trailer Test
During a recent police clamp down on unsafe / unroadworthy vehicles a couple of motorists pulling trailers were done for not passing a trailer test.
Does this test apply to all trailers and are caravans included.

Caravans do come under these regulations:
"“trailer” means a vehicle drawn by a motor vehicle"
That's from: http:// www.leg islatio n.gov.u k/ukpga /1988/5 2/secti on/185

I think if you passed your test before 1997 then you can tow trailers and caravans. If you only passed your test since then you can't just hitch one up and drive off. There must be some additional test needed. Even if you did pass your test pre '97 it would not be a bad idea to get some tuition before towing for the first time, it isn't easy.
