Freezer Defrosted...sob... :(

Just to cap off a stressful day, I have just noticed that my freezer had been turned off at the switch, possibly last night when I was moving stuff around and getting some sweetcorn out.

I just went to get something and as I had some special treat ice cream to cheer me up and noticed the ice looked loose (was thinking I needed to de-ice it last night to maximise space!) and cleaned a bit round it and must have pushed it too far back against the plug switch on the wall (it's a little countertop freezer).

Is there anything safe enough to be able to keep, as I really could do without wasting anything? The ice round the sides hadn't melted (suggesting to me it was more recent than last night) but was easily removable in large pieces from the sides.

I have low fat oven chips, some green beans, mixed vegetables. I had some raspberries and blackberries, they were mushy so have chucked them already. The ice lollies I had were liquid so chucked them but those long ice pops were ok. My ice cubes had melted. I had some lamb chops and pork steaks, which don't look thawed but don't think are ok to keep.

And do you think I can risk having my ice cream? Been looking forward to that all day!

If you like slop and it is slop, eat it.
Don't know about the rest of your stuff, Eve, but your ice cream should be ok to eat.

Bad luck, Eve.
I'd cook the meat and then freeze again. Not ideal but better than losing it all. Would have kept the fruit and veg or blanche and refreeze. The ice cream should be OK.

Hi, I'm a bit uncertain about the meat, it was up to use by date when frozen (reason for freezing) and the lamb ones were from Tesco bargain bin. Just not sure whether to risk leaving them in the fridge to try to cook tomorrow as not properly frozen but not properly defrosted.

Glad it's thumbs up for the ice cream :)

Thanks for all your replies.

I'm hoping the veg is ok as didn't seem to have thawed out (maybe as a lot of ice still round it), that and the oven chips are most of it.

I already chucked the fruit as it just felt all mushy and squished a bit when I was checking it :( Such a shame as I had quite a bit of that too.
I too would re freeze the chips, veg and ice pops.

I'd also cook the meat and try to use up over the weekend.
I'd bin the meat, but certainly refreeze the veg and icecream.
If you leave them till tomorrow to defrost properly and they still smell OK, then cook them straight away and eat some and freeze the rest and they will be fine.
Eve, you could have put the fruit in your ice cream. Tutti Fruti :-)
I wa talking about the meat Eve. No need to throw it if it's not off boxy.

Sounds like a plan :) Need to keep an eye to make sure it's re-freezing up properly too.

Ok, will stick the meat in the fridge and see how it is tomorrow for cooking and eating if it looks ok. Chips and veg and ice pops are back in.

Fruit is already in the bin Tony :( It did looks really mushy though. If I had a blender I'd have tried to save it maybe.

The ice cream is a Ben & Jerry's caramel one and was on offer in Tesco (else it'd still be there haha!), it's pure indulgence just on its own - not even thinking about the calories, it's very very rare I have it though, was a bit of an impulse buy :)
I wouldn't throw anything away! If you are unsure about the meat, cook it then re freeze it
Ah Ben and Jerry's ( slobber slobber ), very nice Eve, Mrs av's favorite is the cookie dough one.

Mmmm... I'm not good with a lot of daily but once in a while treat seems to be ok. I had a little pot of one a while back, think it was a Haagen-Dazs one with praline or similar in, gorgeous!

Ok, meat in the fridge and other bits to keep back in the freezer! Can relax now, had only popped to the kitchen to get my ice cream and was planning to be heading to bed not long from now, just as well though really else I hate to imagine the mess I've had come down to tomorrow morning post lie in!

Hadn't even thought of cooking and then re-freezing the meat as really didn't want to eat it over the weekend as having issues cooking - hence why shoved in the freezer. Can stick it in the oven/grill hopefully.

Thank you for all your help and hope you all have a lovely evening.
