Removal Of Crusty Skin Tag

I have what looks like a skin tag that has come up quite quickly but has now levelled off as far as growth is concerned. It`s not under a fold of flesh - it`s on the collar bone. At least I think it`s a skin tag - could be a wart I suppose but I don`t think so. Has anyone had anything like this removed? I`m just wondering how much of a scar will be left.

What do you mean, how much of a scar....5mms? 5cms?......it won't be 5 metres...;-)

Depends on the size of lesion.......there will always be a scar and if that is what you are worried about, make sure it is done by a Plastic surgeon.

If its a skin tag you (or your GP) can tie a piece of cotton around it and it will wither off

I got a skin tag burned off at the Wart clinic. It hurt like Hades for a couple of weeks and then fell off. It left no scar.

Thanks for the replies. I have had minor skin tags removed by electrolysis which is quite easy as they just zap the tag at it`s narrowest part but this one is a bit larger. I wasn`t wondering about the size of the scar as such, just whether to expect much of a mark at all.

If it is truly a skin "tag" one can purchase the pressurized nitrogen in cans (at least here in the U.S.) (the preferred brand is Dr. Scholl's) and easily remove the tags/warts yourself at much less cost.

Having said that, if the growth came on suddenly, is crusty, has discoloration and undefined edges, you may wish to have it looked at by a dermatologist for possible skin cancer. I recently had a growth that began at the outside corner of my right eye and seemed to enlarge to about 1/8th inch in diameter and was forming a firm lump. I had it looked at by my family Dr. and he removed it in office, leaving a small scar. He was concerned enough about it to send it in fro examination and turns out it was basil cell carcinoma, probobly one of the least worrisome of cancers, but since he had not defined the perimeter when he removed it he sent me to a dermatologist to do so. Fortunately, the dermatologist found the original Dr. had removed it all. Could have gone to a plastic surgeon but the size of the scar was going to be the same (negligible) regardless so didn't do that, which was fine by my original Dr.

Have you experienced a blistering sunburn in that area sometime in life? I found that to do so increases the chance of cancer by nearly 50%...

If your lesion has a pedicle..........then it might be a skin tag and the above posts are relevant.

But if there is no pedicle (stalk) then take head of Clanad's advice.
