I am making a leylandii hedge.I would like to keep them in pots.Is this possible?

You can grow them in pots but it depends what height of hedge you want to achieve. The bigger the hedge the bigger the pot you will require along with a lot of watering. Unless you are looking at a small decorative hedge then pots are probably not a viable option with such vigorous trees.

I think you could grow them in pots successfully for several years providing you are prepared to pot them on into larger size pots on a regular bassis, as they will otherwise soon become potbound, with the roots going around and around in the pots looking for a route out. I wuld sggest large black plastic pots and keep a close watch on the roots, comming through the holes in the bottom or even busting through the sides. Keeping it trimmed to your desired height (minimum 8ft) will also help keep the roots under control too. A slow release fertilizer given every 6 months should suffice and remember that the compost you use probably already contains nutrients that should last for 6 weeks at least. Good Luck.

The simple answer is NO!

You would have to keep putting them upright after every gust of wind, if you had fifty trees and this happened fifty times a day you would be quite busy!
