would you ever lie just to cover someone else. say this person was very close to you and they did something wrong and you had to lie just to cover their back? (this is not a personal question)

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.i have a bit of a sliding scale of morality - some crimes or moral wrongs i wouldn't hesitate to help a friend or family member cover up if i could, but if the person had done certain things that were repulsive to me i would again not hesitate in shop them and clearly wouldn't feel any friendship for them any longer
Would totally depend on what had been done and, just as importantly, why it had been done. If it were a minor incident and I believed that no real harm had been caused then I probably would.
If it were more serious, e.g. a legal matter, then I would not lie (unfortunately I have been in that situation before). If I were in a position where someone close to me had done something serious and they wanted me to lie to cover for them, then I'm not sure how close I would still feel to that person anyway...

right ok here goes my friend and her boyfriend were arguing and he pushed her over on the floor and now she has a cut lip and a bruised eye, she has asked me not to say anything and she is telling everybody she got in the middle of a fight in a pub and the two people accidently hit her whilst she was spiliting it up now im covering for her as i dont want to cause and arguments am i doing the right thing ?
