I have an 8 year old victoria plum(self pollinating)it gets plenty of blossom but no fruit sets on it,can anyone enlighten me to why this is the cause

Plants fruit to sow seed & perpetuate. Your tree seems unthreatened (too healthy) so is happy to grow. Neglect it, leave it thirsty & threatened for its life and it is forced to fruit.

I am going to suggest a lack of pollinating insects. I don't support Tambo's theory as a plant will only flower and fruit when conditions are good. If the plant becomes dry it will protect itself by dropping the blossoms and fruit. What else is planted near the plum tree? Is it kept well watered during blossom time?
