It's all very well Bradford council making a political gesture using public money and no doubt other councils cant wait to follow suit no matter what the cost to the council tax payer. What happens now to all the pay differentials of those employees above the lowest paid who are in a supervisory role for example? Will they be wanting an equivalent pay rise? They have opened a can of worms that's going to cost us tax payers in the end. As usual it's not been thought through.

We pay (public money) either way. And if an agreed differential is the right thing to have (and that needs to be looked at and agreed) then of course it should reflect the greater skill/responsibility/whatever. We don't refuse to do the right thing because we don't wish to pay for it.
