Trousers For An 80Yr Old With Fluid Retention

Hi,
Am looking for a present for an 80 year old, who's living in shorts at the mo' as his legs are too swollen to be able to wear trousers. He doesn't want track suit bottoms as he's putting cream on several times a day & he wouldn't manage, but I'm thinking something similarly baggy but with a zip that can be worn as trousers or shorts. Don't think cargo trousers would work.
Does such a thing exist ?

Failing that, he can't wear shoes as his feet are so swollen too, he has a pair of slippers - "bootee" type with velcro - that he's massacred & wears them on the odd occasion he steps outside. He ordered 7 pairs of shoes from a "specialist" place online but sent them back as even they didn't fit.
Would anyone have any suggestions ?

is it just for in hte house?
why not trackies? you can get ones with loose bottoms, rather than the cuff at the bottom

'tis for the house really as he hardly goes out. I suggested trackies but he poopoo'd it because of the putting cream on. He's a stubborn wotsit so no point pursuing it with him ! *sigh*

but if you get the flappy bottoms he could still get cream on, no different to any other trousers!
Also, if he's at home, he could just slip the trousers down to cream his legs (not really recommended for when you are out tho!)

I know, I know, but believe me if I try to "persuade" him, he'll get upset then angry. Been there before ...

you can also get zipped legged ones, so just open the zip. The only thing i could recommend for shoes is crocs

Hi CW, an 80 year old with mobility problems will go for what's practical .. i.e .. what he's already wearing. I'd suggest the same (shorts) .. but you can buy them in jogging bottom material.

zipped leg ones are really good cos they can open wide - you know zip right down his full leg.

bednobs, jennyjoan, good idea, think long zips might work. He not one for visitors really so tailor, while also a good idea, probably isn't practical. And crocs (which I love !) are more rigid than the oversize "booties" it sounds likes he's butchered.
Elina, he doesn't seem to have a problem with shorts generally but I'm thinking a few months ahead when they might get a bit chilly ;)
