There’s a mass of information about charities on the internet, but the answer to my question in not easy to find – how many registered charities are there in the UK – many thousands of them it seems? Their collection bags or callers with money boxes are frequent and I sometimes make a donation, but don’t know what they actually do with the money raised. Is it really necessary for there to be so many charities? Couldn’t some of them be combined?

My work is a Registered Charity - but we are not a charity as per PDSA, Red Cross etc.!

Take a look at

http://www.oscr.org.uk

and see how may are registered in Scotland!

I work for a registered Charity as well. I give to the Dogs Trust, as we have a place here in South Wales, where you can see the work that they do. I was also cornered by the MacMillan Nurses, after a friends died of cancer.

If I see the Boy Scouts or Army Cadets collecting, I always put something in the tin.
