The owner and registered keeper do not have to be one and the same. However, if you own and are the registered keeper of a vehicle and your father tries to insure it as you have suggested, it is unlikely he will be provided with cover. The insurers will contend that, as he is neither the owner nor the keeper he has no insurable interest in the vehicle. If he tells lies (by saying that he is the owner when in fact you are) in order to obtain cover, the insurers are likely to cancel the policy should they find out. They will almost certainly do this if you have an accident. If they do cancel it, they will cancel it retrospectively and you will find yourself (once again) liable to prosecution for driving with no insurance.
