Thanks to those who replied to my recent thread. I eventually changed the taps. Just for info I went to a wholesale plumbers on my local industrial estate and found a set of the same taps (with no retaining bolt) for which I was quoted £47. Went to Screwfix 200 yds down the road and found the same taps for £22!

Good one, Johnny. The main reason for this is the dopey discount system which merchants persist with.

If an account holding plumber went to the merchant, he'd get a discounted price probably equalling Screwfix's price.
